Mylo Meditation & Yoga Collection by lululemon

[Update: February 8th, 2022. We’re excited to share that the lululemon Meditation and Yoga Mat Bag and Barrel Duffel Bag are now available for purchase online and at select lululemon retail locations while supplies last.]

Since its conception, Mylo™ has made headlines for its potential to change the fashion industry, but the possibilities of this inventive new material don’t stop with traditional leather products. As we work toward a more sustainable future, it’s time we reimagine the materials we use as part of our wellness routines.

In July 2021, Mylo consortium partner, lululemon, revealed the world’s first yoga accessories made with Mylo. The capsule collection demonstrates the brand’s continued dedication to sustainability through the use of innovative materials in products to serve on a path to wellness.

The capsule collection includes the Meditation and Yoga Mat Bag and Barrel Duffel Bag. Leveraging the refined finish and versatility of Mylo, the bags use Mylo in premium embellishments throughout, including intricately woven handles and braided zipper pulls.

The collection also includes a concept yoga mat made entirely from Mylo. As Mylo is made from mycelium, the underground root-like structure of mushrooms, this innovative material application is particularly fitting as an essential tool to ground the body during yoga. The Mylo yoga mat experiments with varying woven patterns to complement the placement of hands and feet. The design is inspired by the brand’s popular Take Form Mat, which includes 3D zoned alignment patterns.

Sustainable innovation will continue to play a key role in the future of retail and product, and for us, leveraging a material like Mylo demonstrates our commitment to creating a healthier environment through lower-impact products, while also giving us the ability to reimagine iconic pieces in our line through a sustainability lens.

Developed by lululemon’s Accessories Design team, these Mylo products were created with the brand’s Science of Feel approach at the forefront. This design principle aims to provide guests with an elevated sensory experience and product performance. The use of Mylo is part of lululemon’s commitment to using at least 75% sustainable materials in their products by 2025.

While Mylo can be processed to replicate the look and feel of traditional animal leather, the concept yoga mat uses the material with a decidedly more minimalistic finish – it is the first product to use Mylo in its undyed state. The flat-faced surface allows mycelium’s natural, earth-tone coloration to show through. This sustainable update to a brand staple highlights Mylo’s potential to be used in products beyond those which traditionally use animal and synthetic leather.

Mylo is made from renewable mycelium, the root structure of mushrooms grown in an indoor, vertical farming facility, and processed by a team of scientists and materials experts at Bolt Threads. As a founding member of the Mylo consortium, lululemon joins a group of forward-thinking global companies, including Stella McCartney and adidas, who have banded together to invest in materials innovation and contribute to a more sustainable future.
